Dear Darla, John, and family
I just heard today about Ben's passing. I would have been at his funeral if I had known. Words can't express how sad I am feeling for your loss and for all of us who knew, loved, and had the honor of having him touch our lives. I enjoyed watching him grow up as a happy and adorable little boy into such a fine young man. He will never be forgotten and I will keep him and all of you in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless. XO
Love,
Maureen Kelly

I met Ben during orientation week our freshman year at Michigan Tech in 2011. Living across the hall from Ben, we got to know each other over the course of our first year. He would always stop in if my roommate or I were in our room and chat with us in between classes or at the end of the day and many times the conversation would devolve to a series of jokes or comments that would leave all of us laughing at the end. Ben also wasn't afraid to help a friend in need. I didn't have the best technical background with computers before I came to Michigan Tech and Ben was always my go-to man for problems that I couldn't solve on my own. No matter what he was doing it always seemed like he had a minute to spare to help me out when I needed it. After our freshman year I moved to a house in Hancock and we didn't see much of each other anymore. But every once in a while we would bump into each other on campus and it seemed like hardly any time had past. Although we never had deep, life-changing conversations, or delved into each other's pasts, I will always consider Ben a friend. My deepest sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Ben for their loss. I will keep you and Ben in my thoughts and prayers.

You were a great friend, one that made every class we had together fun and exciting. You always made me laugh, and always dealt with my bad jokes. You will be missed 'Ben-a-jam'.
Many prayers for your family for this difficult time. I'll be praying for you.

Darla and John, We are so sorry to hear that Ben has passed away. It has been a few years since our sons have played together. We always enjoyed having Ben to our house. We were always comfortable having Tom to your home. They were good friends. Our prayers are with you both at this incredibly sad time. May the angels take good care of Ben.

I am so sorry to hear about Ben passing away. I lived in the same dorms as him my first 2 years at Michigan Tech. I didn't know him as well as others did but he always said hi to me in the hallways, chatted in the kitchenette and offered advice whenever I was worried about a class or exam. He'll be remembered as a kind, funny, and all-around great guy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.

Not quite sure I have much to say that hasn't already been said. Ben was my roommate at Tech his first year, and I remember him always trying to help with things, including a few highly impractical yet amusing ideas for helping me when I was going through a rough patch. I lived with him for a year, but I doubt I ever knew him like others did. Sad that it takes something like this to realize that. Thoughts are with your family.

My condolences. I was shocked and saddened when I heard Ben had passed away. I've known Ben since middle school. We would do german homework and skits together. He lived a few mins away so would hangout and ride bikes or go swimming with friends . He was a weird goofy guy. He always thought i was weird, that was probally why we got along. He will be in my memories and prayers

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Ben. Knowing Ben since elementary school, I have many fond memories of him. At my birthday party, no one was more fascinated with the magician than Ben was. Elementary school recess was spent with Ben quite frequently, and our friendship fondly extended into high school. He was always so kind and goofy in a great way that made people smile in a wonderful way. Kobane family, you are in my thoughts and prayers during this deep time of need.

When I'd heard Ben passed away, it shocked me. He was often a comforting face between classes at University. He was a wonderful person who touched a great deal of people whether he realized it or not. To his family, I'm sorry for your loss. And to Ben, may you rest in peace knowing that for forever changed my, and many other's, lives. Thanks for all you did to brighten my day.

I played video games with your son, It is still a strange way to tell people you meet but what change I did get with him left a deep impression, He was a very fun person to be around, he would always lift my spirits and his influence will live on in and through me.
