Dorothy Belina Obituary

Published by Brick-Meger Funeral Home on Nov. 25, 2017.
Dorothy Belina of Owatonna died Nov. 25, 2017 at Birchwood Cottage of Owatonna. Friends may greet the family from 1-3:00 PM at the Brick – Meger Funeral Home on Saturday, December 2nd 2017, with a luncheon to follow at the Brick Meger reception center. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit. Dorothy was born August 9th, 1923 to Frank G. and Barbara (Suchanek) Haberman in Hope Minnesota. Later, the family moved to rural Owatonna. She and her sister Jane attended the little country school on St. Paul road. She then attended Owatonna high school, becoming a member of the Thespians, and graduating as an honor student. While in school and as a young adult, she worked the children's room at the Owatonna public library, an experience that she never forgot. In 1944 she enlisted in the Navy and worked as a clerk keeping track of ships lost in the Atlantic. Dorothy was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war she was united in marriage to Donald J. Belina. The couple made their home just north of Owatonna, raising two boys and enjoying life as a homemaker. In 1967, after a four year illness, Dorothy experienced the death of her husband Don. Picking up where her husband left off, Dorothy obtained her driver's license in her early forties and became a sales person for the Fuller Brush Company. Later she took a job at Torgerson's Owatonna Travel Service. Dorothy had the opportunity to travel extensively with Dale Torgerson's mother Clara, and was grateful for the opportunity to do so. Dorothy finished her career at Owatonna Tool Company (Service Tools Division) working customer service for Caterpillar and John Deer. After retirement, Dorothy volunteered her time at river bend nature center, was active in her church and a number of clubs. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her many friends and relatives. She especialy loved to be outdoors, working her garden and listening to the birds. She repeatedly expressed her love for dogs, remembering fondly, her dog "Jack" whom accompanied her as a young woman. Dorothy is survived by her sister Jane Klinkhammer. Two sons Michael (Elizabeth) Belina, Donald (Karla) Belina. Three grandchildren, Catherine (Eric) Gasner, Josie Belina and Josh Kilvington, Kelsy (Scott) Jones and four great grandchildren. Memorials are to me made to Owatonna Public Library or to the donor's choice.
