1957 Bachelors of Science - San Diego State University

6/11/62 Doctorate of Medicine - The University of Utah

After completing his internships & residency, Ed practiced medicine in his hometown of San Diego as an OBGYN. He had a very popular practice, and his patients would wait sometimes an hour plus to see him. He treated each patient as if they were the only patient he had seen all day. When he wasn't in his office or at the hospital delivering babies, he was donating his medical expertise to clinics.

Ed had a myriad of passions: Painting, skiing, sailing where he crewed in many races, collecting books (read 3 books weekly), Indy 500 races, attending art gallery receptions and academy screenings. He was a historian on WWII, college football, baseball, basketball and all aspects of the brain. Ed had a wonderful fashion sense and one of his nicknames was "GQ." Ed went on hiatus from medicine for a few years. In 1996, he re-met his current wife, Karen who he had assisted in 1967. Ed moved to Beverly Hills and became friends with Bill W. and was active member of his club for 25 years.
Ed decided to end his hiatus and joined the GCC team to teach surgical techniques. He was hired by the brilliant, nationally renowned and revered administrator, Connie Bell who he was honored to work along with. He loved teaching, his co-workers and mentoring the students.

While Ed was teaching full time, he also facilitated a very popular weekly course on chemical dependency education for 56 male residents at the Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center/Santa Monica. He was dedicated to helping these men gain knowledge in all aspects of addiction so they could gain skills to stay sober. He wrote an entire 56-week curriculum course. Ed received the prestigious "Volunteer of the Year" award. In addition to volunteering at the Salvation Army, he also tutored numerous Drug & Alcohol Interns on the functions of the brain prior to their taking their written exams.

In 2016, Ed and his wife, Karen, retired to Palm Desert. Ed joined the fabulous Art Club and was selected to show his paintings at the Artists' Studio Tour. Afterwards, he was featured in the local community magazine. He also took golf lessons and naturally purchased all the fashionable attire & clubs needed. He had an active life until the pandemic hit. Alzheimer's crept in very slowly during the isolation and started to rear its ugly head. Thus began Ed's newest and saddest journey.

Special Thank You's To: The dynamic duo Sonia & Jerry Glasser who have continued to offer unconditional love & nonstop support 24-7 during Ed's entire journey and were always there to assist whether that be driving to appointments, meetings, movies, hospital, or providing home cooked 5-star dinners. Sonia & Jerry were the saints that always came marching in. To: Connie Bell who has continued to be a shining light and always there to offer love and guidance from afar. To: Harvey Jason, Bob Zapel & Mauro Caputo (RIP) who have also exemplified the true meaning of friendship and unconditional love To: Bruce Shobe, Mike Jasenak (RIP) & Jesse "Homie" Wright big thanks to you for your love, support and friendship. You were like sons to Ed. Each of you have made a huge impact on Ed's life and he was deeply touched and grateful.

Ed gallantly beat and recovered from prostate cancer, constrictive pericarditis where the lining of his heart was removed, spine surgery and flat lining in the hospital before getting a pacemaker. There is no recovery from Alzheimer's disease - yet.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Seth Rogen's charity HFC is appreciated. HFC provides in-home relief grants to caregivers in need. In addition to supporting family caregivers, HFC also provides brain health education and prevention research. HFC has become a leader in changing the trajectory of Alzheimer's.

Ed died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loving wife and beloved cat. It's been a long goodbye and he is now free. One of Ed's biggest dreams was to climb Mt. Everest. Today, that dream is no doubt being fulfilled. He can now soar with the angels. above the top of that majestic mountain.

I just came across the article. So sad to hear he is gone. He delivered my three children...one in 1971, one in 1972, & one in 1985. He was such a good caring dr. He was so effected by the first born being still- born. He made sure he kept close tabs on the other two. I was so happy he was still practicing in 1985 when he delivered my daughter, after such a long time frame from delivering my son. He is definitely missed.

Oh my goodness. I happened across this today. I am saddened by your passing. You delivered 2 of my children. One at the Salvation Army Door of Hope in San Diego. A terribly difficult time for me, and your were so kind. From that point on you were my doctor. You delivered my daughter on 08/09/1977. You were a blessing to me and I am so grateful to have known you.

I am so sorry to learn of Dr. Fahlsing's passing. He was my ob gyn in San Diego and delivered my second child.
I gladly waited those extra hours in the waiting room until my appointment time. He truly made every patient comfortable and was dedicated to making you feel special. Rest in peace .

Dr Fahlsing! You were the coolest professor ever! You were fun to talk to. I looked for you through the years, yet could never get a hold of you. Thank you for your friendship. I'm gonna miss you heart and soul. I always talk about you to my friends and family.

My mama passed away in 2011.. I hope you held on to the gift from my family in 1999 (WW2 memorabilia) It was an honor handing it over to you. God bless you sir. Nicht auf Wiedersehen. Es ist "Bis später"

Dr Fahlsing, you have always been an inspiration to me. We shared the same friend of Bill W. I always loved our talks after class. You opened my eyes in a different way of what I would see things. You ALWAYS made me laugh. You have always been the light of the room. Thank you for all your teaching. And thank you for being my friend. Make sure you say HI to Bill for me.

His daily reading and sharing your notes from “Love is” are a testimony of the beautiful relationship you both shared. He is gone but will continue watching over you, guiding you and reminding you that love is eternal, he is at peace, and he wants nothing more than for you to continue living life in his absence. May your faith be the beacon that help you see the light and accept what we can not understand. Sending much love in this time of sorrow. I admire you Karen Michaels-Fahlsing
