I was a UNC student from '81-'85. During this time, I also had a work study grant and worked in the Technical Svcs dept at Michener library. I would frequently bump into Mr Bachenberg while at work, and he always greeted me with a warm and friendly smile. In addition, he was always available when I needed help with research in the periodicals section. He was a dear, sweet man with a gentle soul and a sharp wit, and I will never forget how he conducted himself with such strength and grace in the aftermath of his son's passing - an unimaginable tragedy.
The world needs more people like Mr Elmer V Bachenberg.
Rest in peace my old friend.
