Emma Schlorch, 95, of Sanctuary at St. Paul Retirement Community, South Bend, passed away after a brief illness on Friday October 7, 2011, at Hospice House, South Bend. She was born September 25, 1916, in Lehigh, OK, to the late John and Catherine (Savio) Fenoglio. On June 30, 1945, as Emma Fenoglio, she married Arthur L. Schlorch. They celebrated 56 years of devoted married life, before his death on May 15, 2002. Along with her loving husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Lee in 1952 and two sisters, Norina Rufatto and Mafalda Brooks. Emma is survived by her daughters, Catherine M. (Richard G.) Hassi of Albuquerque, NM and Mary Ann (Barrie) Ricketts of Wheaton, IL; four grandchildren, Deborah L. Hassi, Steven R. (Cherie L.) Hassi, Jennifer L. Ricketts and Paul A. (Kathleen) Ricketts; two great-grandchildren, Nicole Grace Hassi and John Joseph "Jack" Ricketts; and by a sister, Rosalie Smith of Santa Rosa, CA. Mrs. Schlorch taught at Attica High School from 1941-1945. Later in life after raising her family, she was the Administrative Assistant for the Apprentice Program for Plumbers & Pipefitters for 11 years. She was a Parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend and a volunteer for the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, the Circle of Mercy and Corvilla. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Monday, October 10, 2011, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Tuesday, October 11, 2011, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
