Frances L. Phleeger

Peoria --- Frances L. Phleeger, 90, of Peoria, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 at Heartland of Peoria. Born Sept. 19, 1919 in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Louis and Edith Radke, she married Guy O. Phleeger on Oct. 5, 1940 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 2006 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Howard "Bud" Radke. Surviving is one daughter, Eileen Phleeger of Peoria. During the 26-year Army career of her late husband, Maj. Guy Phleeger, Frances was active in a variety of military service clubs in the U. S., Japan and Germany and held various administrative offices in these organizations. Following the retirement of her husband, together they raised large gardens of vegetables at their home in Germantown Hills, canning and freezing much of the produce. Frances was a lover of animals, often taking in strays, nursing them back to health, and helping to find them a new home. Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Rev. David Gruber will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until time of the services. Graveside committal services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
