George Nutial, age 91, of Alliance, passed away at 7:30 a.m. May 31, 2011 at Bel-Air Care Center. George was one of ten children born to Pete and Anna (Mikonovic) Nutial, attended Alliance schools and enjoyed swimming in the Mahoning River before enlisting in the Navy and serving his country for four years in WWII. He moved to Maine after the war, married and fathered four children, and has four grandchildren and one great-grandson. He worked as a bakery salesman for many years and then changed careers, becoming a telephone installer for NYNEX for 15 years. When he retired, he moved back to Alliance where he was an avid vegetable gardener, providing Alliance care facilities with his overabundance of tomatoes, melons and plums. He fulfilled a longtime dream and took up golf in his retirement hitting his tee shots not far, but straight. He was a dedicated worker and father. He is survived by his children, Mark Pentilescu of San Diego, CA, Kathryn Michaud and her husband James of Peabody, MA, Karen Nutial of Portland, OR and Mary Bly and her husband William of Jacksonville, NC. He will also be remembered by his brother William Nutial of Alliance, Mary Jane Gampo of Sebring, and Virginia Pentilescu in Florida and by his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Fr. Donald Feicht of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service. Entombment, with Military Honors, will be at Highland Memorial Park immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, friends may "Give a Gift in Honor" to the Audubon Society at http://support.audubon.org and use [email protected] as the e-card email address. Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
