He joined the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean War. While still in Germany, he met Kaethe Schevey of Germany. After a long romance via old fashioned mail, Kaethe moved to St. Joseph from Germany and she and Herb were married. Herb worked several jobs, including the coal mines in Germany as a teenager. He was a highly skilled, journeyman tool and die maker and worked for many St. Joseph area firms. He retired as Tool Room Supervisor from Bendix in 1991. Herb is survived by his son, Herbert Daumann Jr., daughter in-law Angie, and grandson Josh of Commerce Township, MI. He is also survived by his companion, Regina Piontek of St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Kaethe. Herb was a very active member, and helped to establish the St. Joe Kickers Soccer Club. He spent many years volunteering for club activities, playing soccer, and coaching soccer. He enjoyed Michigan State football and basketball. For many years, he held Michigan State football season tickets, and traveled to California to see the Spartans play in the 1988 Rose Bowl. He was a dog lover, and leaves behind his canine friend, Tessie. Herb was a kind and loving man and will be dearly missed.
