Ibolya Csontos Obituary

Published by Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills on Dec. 29, 2021.
Ibolya "Ibi" Csontos (né Toth), 73, born on July 20, 1948, in Debrecen, Hungary, passed away December 29, 2021 at her home in Encino, CA after a long valiant battle with uterine cancer. Born to a former first lieutenant, and war hero in the Hungarian Royal army, and the daughter of a confectioner, she was the oldest of four sisters. Because of their father's high rank and loyalty to the former Hungarian empire, the family endured much suffering and hardship under the communist regime. While in Hungary, she completed a degree in medical technology. On a chance visit to see her three aunts who were living in Detroit, Michigan, she met Lajos Csontos, and after three months of dating, got married on December 23, 1972. After living in Michigan for 13 years, Ibi, Lajos, and their son Louis, moved to Los Angeles, California. Because the state of California did not accept her Hungarian degree, Ibi had to go back to school, reacquiring a degree in medical technology while working full time and raising their son Louis. She graduated a second time from Cal State University Northridge. She worked as a lab tech for almost 25 years. Ibi was a master cook, baker, and hostess. Her Hungarian dishes and pastries were worthy of fame, and the dinners she hosted for friends and family are legendary. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening, travel, and art. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Lajos, their son Louis, and granddaughter Cali. -------------------- If you wish to send flowers please tell the florist to send them to Forest Lawn, and provide them with the date, location, and Mrs. Csontos' name. My mother, Évi, would always share the foil wrapped pastries Ibi would send her home with, and we joyfully ate them! My mother also would tell me how remarkable Ibi was, to do all she did and fight cancer, and she seemed to do it with such grace. Ibi brought light wherever she went and that light now continues to shine in the hearts she left behind. With heartfelt sympathy,

Dear Family!
Ibi was a blessing on earth, an Angel in human form. And with her passing the world has just lost an incredible life.
The little time I spent with her taught me a lot about the awesomeness of her persona.
She was such a beautiful person inside and out. She always made people happy around her. It’s a big loss for all those who did not get to experience her presence.
Ibi will be missed a lot by all those who were lucky enough to know her.
May her SOUL REST in PEACE!

I will never forget the memorable moments we shared. Whenever we visited you, the wire and food were always served. The delicious pastries were always on the Lab’s lunchroom table during the holidays.
You were such a hard worker at your job. You fulfilled your duty well and always helped others at work. We miss you.
I really enjoyed our friendship. I still remember those conversations we had on different topics: family, grandchildren, the “battle “against sickness.
I admired your tenacious will. Your optimism infected me.
You set eternity in our hearts. You are in our thoughts forever.

Ibi worked so hard throughout her life, at her job, on her house projects & gardening, raising a son, cooking meals. An amazing and generous dinner host, and eating at their house was always a unique culinary experience. I even brought a friend (who they had never met, but she graciously welcomed) to a dinner party because I wanted others to experience it as well. My son still brings up the time the freeway was unexpectedly closed, but my mom used Ibi's house as a pit stop, and of course Ibi took them in and made sure they were comforted and well fed before they left. I will always remember the thick aluminum foil wrapped pastries she'd send me home with, and nibbling on that comfort food the next few days.

Louis, although I never met your mother, I’ve tasted her amazing desserts and I know what a loving mother to you and grandmother to Cali she was. You and your family are in my thoughts.
