Irene Kuvakas

Services will be held at 6 PM Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Irene Kuvakas, 82, of Youngstown who passed away Sunday in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Irene was born July 1, 1927 in Portsmouth, Ohio the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Proctor) Thomas and came to the area as a child. She was a cosmetology teacher with the Youngstown Beauty Academy for 3 years and was also the owner/operator of the Beauty Box from 1971 to 1982. She was a member of Christ Church Presbyterian and was active in 5 different church social clubs within the area, at St Mary's, St. Christine's, St. Brendan's, St. Joseph's and Sts. Peter and Paul's Churches. Irene was also a former member of the Amerath Justice Court #26. Her husband John Kuvakas, whom she married October 15, 1949, passed away February 7, 1990. Irene leaves one son Rev. John Allen (Kelly) Kuvakas and two grandchildren; Ruth (Todd) Eaton of Rutland Vermont, and Jason Kuvakas of Warrenton, VA., one great grandchild Sammi Eaton, one sister Sylvia Tisone of Youngstown, one brother George Thomas of Austintown, her caregiver and nephew James Thomas of Youngstown as well as several other nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call from 5 to 6 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
