James Ohlaug Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 6, 2016.
James H. Ohlaug James Howard Ohlaug was born on November 7, 1928 in Madison, MN, the son of Oscar and Ida (Digre) Ohlaug. He was baptized and confirmed at Hegre Lutheran Church. James graduated from Madison High School in 1946. He met the love of his life Grace Borstad and prior to his leaving to the Korean War they were united in marriage on October 29, 1950. James was awarded two Bronze Stars for his heroic actions saving children and fellow soldiers on the battle field. After the war James and his family lived on a farm near Madison. James worked on the farm and Grace raised their children Deanne and David. In 1962 Jim and Grace sold the farm and moved to St. Cloud, MN where he worked as a truck driver for Anderson Trucking, a police officer for the St. Cloud Police Department and also as a farm manager for Moorhouse Turkey Hatchery. Jim and Grace moved to Alexandria in 1974 and bought Cottage Grove Resort on Lake Andrew. Together they operated the resort and Jim handled the outside duties and general operations of the resort. After seven years they sold the resort and moved back to St. Cloud, MN only to find out they missed the resort life and three years later returned to Alexandria and purchased Tip Top Cove Resort on Lake Miltona. They enjoyed their time on Lake Miltona and later sold the resort, retired and moved to Alexandria. James was a hardworking strong willed man disciplined in his actions and behavior. He loved fishing, camping, the lakes and boating which all led to his life as a resort owner. He was involved in the Lions Club and received the Hearing Research Fellow Award. James helped build the Shalom Lutheran Church where he was a charter member. He loved his family and loved to spoil his grandchildren. James H. Ohlaug died on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at West View Assisted Living Center in Osakis, MN at the age of 84 years old.
