Janet Chellos Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 9, 2012.
Memorial services to celebrate the life of Janet R. "Jan" Chellos, 73, a resident of Davenport, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be from 1:00 until the time of the service Sunday at the funeral home. Keeping with Jan's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Jan died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at her home. Janet Rae Westering was born on October 26, 1938 in Lake City, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Wanda (Porter) Westering. She graduated from Adair High School in 1956 where she was crowned the Homecoming Queen. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart the late Marvin Carlson. She later was united in marriage to Jerry Chellos on April 15, 1983 in Texas. Jan retired from J.C. Penney's after a 30 year career in their accounting department. Not one to sit around, Jan decided to go back to work and was employed as a switchboard operator at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport. Jan's life revolved around her family, she loved being around her children and grandchildren, and would do anything for her loved ones. She was truly the matriarch of the family, and dedicated her life to making sure they were taken care of. Jan was always a welcoming hostess, and a "mom" to more than just her own children. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, and in the winter time, watching the eagles fly down by the river. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Jan is survived by her husband of 29 years, Jerry, Davenport; daughters: Nancy Talley, Hitchcock, TX and Tracy Williams, Riverside, IA; grandchildren: Chris Carlson, Andi Yeamans, Rebecca Carlson, Jesse Garvin, Amanda Carlson, Marissa Williams, Heather Yancy, Benjamin Williams, Jacob Carlson, and Sean Garvin; numerous great-grandchildren, a brother, Dennis (Dorlene) Westering, Atlantic, Iowa, and her beloved English Bulldog, Sir Watson McNaughty. She was preceded in death by her sons, Greg and Jeffrey Carlson, grandsons, Matthew Carlson and James Garvin.
