At the end of a long life filled with bravery, honor, happiness and success, John A. Mokri passed away at his home on July 2, 2009 with his wife and family at his side. John was born in Rossford, OH and graduated from Rossford High School in 1938. When WWII broke out, he served in the Army as a cartographer and photomapper for the 649th Engineer Battalion from 1942 to 1945. Several of the maps that he created were used for Allied tactical operations in North African and European campaigns. After the war, John worked for the Army Map Service in Washington, D.C. for a couple of years before moving back to Ohio, where he raised a large family and enjoyed a successful career first as a pipefitter for the B&O and C&O railroads, and later for Allied Chemical / Plaskon Products, where he proudly served for many years as a U.A.W. committeeman. He loved Big Band music and traveling the world, and was especially fond of his trips to Budapest, Hungary, where he spoke the language fluently. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Maumee, and was a life member of the American Legion Post 320 in Maumee and the VFW Post 6409 in Rossford. John is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Helen Philbin, Margaret Bodnar and Elizabeth Mokri, and brother, Zoltan Mokri. He is survived by Agnes Mokri, his wife of 67 years, and children, Deloris "Dolly" Purdy, John (Lisa) Mokri, Jane (Michael) Berry, Dennis (Rhonda) Mokri, Michael (Jan) Mokri, Mark (Pam) Mokri; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
