Dear Kay and family:
Just saw that Jon had passed away. We did not know he was ill and am very sorry for your loss. Jon will be missed to all those that knew him.

I had the pleasure of having Jon in three courses as he completed his Masters Degree in Social Innovation & Sustainability Leadership. I think of his wisdom and energy that he brought to everything he did at SISL. I am fairly certain that he was my only student - EVER - who read 100% of what I assigned! He will be missed.

Jon and I were roommates along with two other men (John K. and Joe H.) during the 1969-1970 school year in Madison. This was the year of the riots in Madison, and we spent many nights on the apartment building roof watching the chaos down below. We four had become friends the previous year living in Turner Hall on campus. These three men went out of their way to befriend me and my future wife, Joan (who died in 1998). Sympathies to his family; you have lost a good man.

Jon was a neighbor and childhood playmate of mine. We spent many days at the park behind his house - playing Tetherball, flying kites, playing baseball. We'd play board games on blankets in our back yards for hours. Had many sleep overs. I will always have those memories. Rest in Peace, Jon

I just would like to extend my sympathy to Kay and Jon's kids at this sad time. Jon was such a terrific guy, both as a parent and as an individual. I got to know Jon when I had the privilege to teach his sons so many years ago at Jefferson School. He was always concerned about how the boys were doing; I could tell that he was a good father to them. Then he was so blessed to marry Kay, whom I had known since the early days of our marriage when we lived in the little house behind the Wild family's Spring Street home for three years. I know this is a very tough time for the whole family; my prayers go out for all of you.
Sincerely,
Phil Buteyn
