Mrs. Karen Houck Refour

Mrs. Karen Houck Refour, 63, of Valdese, died Tuesday December 3, 2013 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, SC, after a brief illness. Mrs. Refour was born April 17, 1950 in Ashe County, the daughter of Odell and Jewell Gentry Houck of Todd, NC. Karen was a faithful member of East Valdese Baptist Church, and the church choir. She was a graduate of Western Piedmont Community College and formally employed as a teacher assistant with the Burke County School System. Karen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Greg Refour of the home, a son Eddie Refour and wife Courtney of Valdese, a daughter, Mariea Brown and husband Robert of Granite Falls, a brother, Terry Houck of Todd, NC, and a sister Donna Houck of Jefferson, NC. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jackson and Davis Brown, Ella and Gantt Refour and three nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday December 6, 2013 at East Valdese Baptist Church with Rev. Brett Howell and Rev. Keith Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4:00 P.M.
