Loretta Schieuer Obituary

Published by Rohde Kingsley Funeral Home & Monument, LLC on Apr. 23, 2013.
Loretta Mae (Morrison) Schieuer, 84, devoted wife of Kenneth Verl Schieuer, of Anthon, IA passed away peacefully Tuesday night, April 23, 2013 in the company of her loving family. Loretta was born February 27, 1929 in Climbing Hill, Iowa. She was the sixth of seven children of Omar William and Argie Thelma (Metcalf) Morrison. The family of six girls and one son enjoyed many fond times with family and friends growing up in the 30's and 40's in Climbing Hill. The family mourned the loss of their only brother and son, Edward, who was killed in action in World War II. Loretta went to school in Climbing Hill and met her future husband, Kenneth Schieuer, while growing up. They enjoyed many fun times and were united in marriage on January 29, 1947 in Kingsley, IA shortly after Kenneth returned from serving in Europe during World War II. They started their family in the Kingsley and LeMars areas, and moved to their family farm southeast of Moville in 1958. Many fond memories with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family friends were made during their 66-plus years of living and working on the family farm. Kenny and Loretta recently moved to Char-Mac Assisted Living in Lawton, IA where they immensely enjoyed the peaceful setting and hospitality. Loretta enjoyed and blessed everyone with her contagious humor, hard work, diligence, love of life, unwavering faith, positive attitude, and energy. Loretta's legacy is her eternal source of compassion, love, wisdom, wit, strength, and inspiration to her husband, their eight children, twenty-four grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren, as well as the other folks blessed to know Loretta. Loretta was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, the Ladies' Guild, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Loretta's life's work was the stewardship of her time, talent, and treasures through her devotion to being a loving, hardworking, and inspiring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. There is nothing Loretta loved more than staying active making memories by attending and celebrating family activities and events with Kenny, and encouraging her family to always aspire to do their best and to enjoy each moment. Loretta and Kenny enjoyed many vacations with family, including trips to Utah skiing and visiting many beautiful national parks throughout the western United States. They also enjoyed vacations to Disneyland, Europe, and many annual "Summer Fun" excursions with family to Adventureland Park, Platte River State Park, the Woodbury County Fair and other destinations. A highlight of Loretta's life was her family's annual Christmas Eve celebrations and visits from Santa Claus. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Edward Morrison, of Climbing Hill, and five sisters: Irene & Joe Roberts of California, June & Clarence Christensen of Omaha, Violet and Russel Ferdig of Omaha, Carol Christensen of Climbing Hill, and Marion Crowther of Sioux City.
