Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Nagle Dobling, 86, a resident of Bettendorf will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Long Grove, Iowa at 2 p.m. Saturday. Visitation is Friday (today) from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, where the family invites you to join them at 3 p.m. for a prayer service to begin the visitation. There will be additional visitation in the Gathering Space at church Saturday from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m.. Mary’s nephews will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Dobling died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf following a brief illness. Mary Lucille Nagle was born October 2, 1923 in Long Grove, Iowa the daughter of James R. and Roma (Meier) Nagle. Mary was a graduate of Davenport High School. She worked as a housekeeper for the W. E. Bettendorf family for over 50 years. Mary was united in marriage to Gordon L. Dobling on April 5, 1951 at St. Ann’s in Long Grove. Gordon preceded her in death February 21, 1986. Mary was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church where she was affectionately known as “Mother Mary�. She was instrumental in organizing the Christian Service ministry at Lourdes, which included the funeral lunch program, food pantry weekends and the Davenport free kitchen meals. She was tireless in her involvement of helping others. The C.E.W. community held a special place in Mary’s heart. Mary was a recipient of the Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice for her many years of dedicated service to the Church. The papal award was presented to Mary by Bishop William Franklin, December 7, 2003, at the mass which closed Lourdes’ centennial year celebration. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Endowment Fund, Sisters of the Humility of Mary, Carmelite Monastery, Scott County Meals on Wheels or the Friendly House Food Pantry. Mary is survived by her sisters Lorraine Burke, Long Grove, Carol Nagle, LaPorte City, IA; her brother Larry (Lois) Nagle, Long Grove; sister-in-law Janet Nagle, Long Grove; and numerous loving nieces and nephews; and her very special family Jane and George Veith and Sally Fuller and their families. In addition to her husband Gordon, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers James “Bud� Nagle, Dan Nagle, Richard Nagle, Harold Nagle, Wayne Nagle, her niece Cindy Nagle and a brother-in-law Tom Burke. May they rest in peace.
