What a teacher! What a mentor! And what a coach! There are teachers all over Shawnee County making a difference in children's lives based on the teachings of Sark. May your family find peace and blessings in the memories and the legacy that he leaves behind.

My deepest sympathies to the Sarkesian family. As a former player for Mike (back then it was "Mr. Sarkesian"), I had the good fortune of playing on two state championship teams that he coached (and semi-finals the other year). Although he was a "football guy" first, his biggest strength as a basketball coach was his ability to motivate his players. He convinced us that if we played "team basketball" and sacrificed for each other, we would be win. And, he was certainly right.
I will always be appreciative of the time he took from his personal life to take several team-mates and myself to look at colleges out of state to help us pursue scholarship offers. We probably would not have taken advantage of the opportunities if Mike had not pushed us to do it.
He not only helped Hope kids pursue a college education, but when his career took him to Iowa Wesleyan, he opened up an avenue to college for many student-athletes. The names are too many to mention, but they came from LaSalle, East Providence, Warwick, West Warwick and Pawtucket, to name a few. He impacted many lives of Rhode Islanders, all in a positive way. I will always appreciate how much he did for me. God Bless Mr. Sarkesian. Rest in peace, Mike.

Sarkesian Family:
So sorry for your loss. I played for Mr. Sarkesian at Hope High School and Iowa Wesleyan.
AND I grew up in Smith Hill on Goddard Street !
He helped so many kids, including some who would
not have gone to college without his help, He recruited so many Rhode Islanders who would not have otherwise left little old Rhode Island.
May he rest in peace !

Sark was one of my favorite professors while I worked on my Elementary Education degree. He was fair, encouraging, and a downright good person who really cared for his students. I was very fortunate to have him for a professor and I will never forget him.
