Nisha Shankar Donde

Nisha S. (Hira Karnik) Donde, 85, of Avon, beloved wife of the late Shankar Donde, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015. Born in Dhulia, India, daughter of the late Rukmangad and Dr. Prameela (Ranadive) Karnik, (of Dhulia Maharashtra and later Mumbai, India), she had lived in Avon for the past seventeen years. She had been a Biology Professor and Head of the Department of Biology at the University of Bombay ( SIES College, Sion, Mumbai) in India until retiring and moving to the United States. Nisha (Hira) was a renowned professor and author of Botany books, independent, friendly, loving, and very highly respected in the community. An avid reader, Nisha stayed abreast of world and community events. With advanced graduate degrees, Nisha was outspoken and a fervent advocate for education for women. She leaves her son Salil Donde and his wife Swati of Avon and her two granddaughters. Her family will receive guests not attending the 12 noon Funeral Services between 11:00 am and 11:30 am on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon followed by Hindu Funeral Services at 12 noon. Cremation services will follow at the Mt Laurel Crematory, 807 Bloomfield Ave. Windsor, departing from the Carmon Family Center about 1:30 PM.
