Paul WUORENMAA Obituary

Published by Canale Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Marquette on Mar. 30, 2016.
Paul L. Wuorenmaa, 91, of Ishpeming, died peacefully Wednesday evening, March 30, 2016 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility with his family by his side. He was born September 23, 1924 in Ishpeming, the youngest of 10 children to the late John and Josephine (Plukka) Wuorenmaa and was a lifelong area resident. Paul was a WWII veteran having served in the US Army Air Corp with the 24th Combat Mapping Squadron. He participated in overseas campaigns in China, Burma and India and was honorably discharged in 1945. On April 2, 1949 he married Audrey Morral in Detroit and would have celebrated their 67th Anniversary. Paul was employed for many years, beginning in 1951, with CCI. He worked both underground and on the surface at the Cliff Shaft Mine, Republic Mine and the Brownstone, holding several job titles until his retirement in 1986. Paul was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved fishing on Lake Superior in the winter and inland rivers in the summer. Paul enjoyed picking berries and making jam with Audrey. He first picked up a guitar at eight years old and played his entire life with Audrey often singing along. He also enjoyed blue grass music, yodeling and serenading the nursing home staff regularly, making pasties and was an avid Detroit sports fan. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Wuorenmaa of Ishpeming; children, Diane (Gary) Jepson of Newark, DE, Beth (Neil) Anderson of Green Bay, WI and Bruce Wuorenmaa of Castro Valley, CA; grandchildren, Travis Jepson of Bear, DE, Kyle Jepson of Lebanon, IL, Reese Jepson of Philadelphia, PA, Neil (Mei) Anderson of St. Louis, MO, Brandon (Carmen) Anderson of Green Bay, WI, Zack Anderson of Green Bay, Jeffrey Wuorenmaa of Castro Valley, CA; great-grandchildren, Vera & Grace Anderson of Green Bay, WI; a sister, Elizabeth (Frank) Buytaert of Traverse City, MI; and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, William, Leo, Martin, George and Walter; three sisters, Marie, Ruth and Esther; and an infant twin brother; and an infant daughter, Janice Kay. A Celebration of Paul's Life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Marquette County Medical Care Facility's Activity Fund, 200 Saginaw Street, Ishpeming, MI 49849. Paul's family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the kindness and care provided by Dr. Catherine Kroll and the staff of the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
