Of the many great leaders in the Philadelphia Fire Department, Rich was one of the very best. Always approachable, stood with his men. I was proud to be under his command. He will be missed greatly by his friends and contemporaries.
Sincere condolences to the Sottung family.
May he Rest In Eternal Peace. ✝

Richard was my cousin on my Mother's side of the family. He was my hero as far back as I can remember. Handsome, athletic, funny and loving he was the whole package we would say now. Even though he was 10 years older than me we shared a special bond and he would include me in many, mostly appropriate, activities. He was fiercely protective of me which I needed on more than one occasion. I loved him very much and even though we hadn't spent much time together since I moved to Georgia he was frequently in my thoughts in fond remembrances. I will miss him greatly. My prayers are with Jerry, Michael, Denise and their families.

Sending hugs and our heartfelt sympathy to all of Richards family and loved ones. Strathmere and Philadelphia lost a classic character. Growing up on our special little island led us to be more like extended family than we were friends. Richard always seemed larger than life. His quick sense of humor kept us all entertained. So many cherished memories. I'm sorry I won't be able to hug all of you in person but I'll be with with you in spirit. I pray that God will comfort you in this sad time. Rest In Peace dear Richard.

Denise and Mike I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear about your Dad . He was a good guy and an awesome firefighter . God bless all of you . He was probably my best boss in 30 yrs on the PFD . I'm very sorry I won't be able to make his services. I would love to be able to talk to you. 215-290-0816
