Thomas E. Echstenkamper, 73, of Glouster, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. He was born October 2, 1935 in Athens County, son of the late Henry and Anna Hayden Echstenkamper. Tom was married to Carol Anne Steffy Echstenkamper. He retired from the State of Ohio Department of National Resources Burr Oak State Park. Tom was a former Western and Southern Insurance agent in Glouster for 15 years, committee chairman for Boy Scout Troop #72 in Glouster, a member of Glouster United Methodist Church and the Glouster Masonic Lodge. In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Ed Tarantelli) Guinther of Glouster; three sons, Mike (Kim) Echstenkamper of Durham, North Carolina, Karl (April) Echstenkamper of Huntersville, North Carolina and Mark (Carrie) Echstenkamper of Wellington, Ohio and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry, Ralph and Earl Echstenkamper and two infant brothers and a sister, Anna Marie Rothery. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in the Cardaras Funeral Home, 30 Main St., Glouster with Rev. Clyde Boring officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 4-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in memory of Thomas E. Echstenkamper to the Trimble Local Textbook & Supplies Foundation, P.O. Box 187, Glouster 45732 or the American Cancer Society, 151 Lake St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
