Dodgeville – Urban P. Dochnahl, age 86, of Dodgeville, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Bloomfield Manor in Dodgeville. He was born on February 6, 1926 in Dodgeville, to Fred and Mary (Dalles) Dochnahl. Urban grew up on the family farm, attended Five Points Rural School and graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1943. On May 30, 1956, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Zimmerman at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Madison. He and Betty lived their married lives on the family farm outside of Dodgeville where they raised their 4 children. Urban was a lifelong farmer until his retirement. He enjoyed driving around the country side and seeing all the beauty of nature, looking at the country side and farm fields. He also had a second profession, which was carpentry work. He enjoyed building many buildings (barns, houses, and sheds) throughout southwest Wisconsin and also enjoyed working side by side with all his buddies. Urban loved to play cards and enjoyed the special time spent with so many special friends and family. He always had a smile on his face and enjoyed joking around and having a good time. Urban enjoyed going on walks and going to church dinners with cousins and friends. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the National Farmers Organization. Urban is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Dochnahl; his children, Dennis (Dr. Judith Yager) Dochnahl, Don (Dee) Dochnahl, Dean (Julie) Dochnahl, all of Dodgeville, and Deb (Bill) Endres, of Waunakee; his three granddaughters, Darlene, Doreen and Diana Dochnahl; his sisters, Genny Derer, of Madison and Mary Jean (Frank) Hlavac, of McFarland; and many other relatives and friends. Urban was preceded in death by his parents, father- and mother-in-law Joseph and Syvilla Zimmerman; sister-in-laws Margaret Zimmerman, Elsa Zimmerman, and Marie Utzig; and brother-in-laws Joe Zimmerman, Hank Zimmerman, Fritz Zimmerman and Phil Utzig. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 405 S. Dakota St. in Dodgeville. Father Schmelzer will officiate. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME, 400 E. Grace St. in Dodgeville, where a Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will be held at 8:00 pm. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Biere and his nurse, Jackie, the nurses and staff members at Bloomfield Manor, as well as the Upland Hospice doctors and nurses for their loving, compassionate care of our dad, Urban. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to St. Joseph's School Trust Fund, Upland Hospice or Bloomfield Manor. Dad lived a simple life always caring for his family and friends. He always had a smile on his face and a joke to share. We are so glad God gave us this wonderful man to be our Dad…We will miss him.
