Stella Price

Stella Price KINGSPORT, Tenn. Stella Price passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, on her 100th birthday at Brian Center in Weber City, Va. She was in the presence of family and friends and the caring staff of the Brian Center. Stella was born May 4, 1910, in Kingsport. She chose to live her entire life among friends and family in the Kingsport community. Since childhood she was a member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church, remaining active as long as her health permitted. She was an avid and skillful quilter. At the age of 85, she began painting for the first time in her life. She was a survivor of colon cancer, and did volunteer work with colostomy patients after her surgery in 1971. Stella was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Hugh Price; her parents, William Emory and Ida Catherine Larkin; sisters, Elmer Larkin and Lula Pridemore; and brother, Thomas Larkin. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Edwards and husband, Wayne, of Wise, Va.; grandson, Kevin Wayne Edwards and wife, Sherry, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; great-granddaughters, Hannah Edwards and Chesnee Edwards, also of Winston-Salem; brother, Garland Larkin, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends. While at Brian Center, Stella embraced the friendship of roommates Wanda Lewis, Mozella Williams, and Nina Quillen, who all preceded her in death. They and their families became extended family to Stella and her family. Visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, in the Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 2, with Rev. Bob Cloud, Rev. Ray Amos, and Rev. Paul Blessing officiating. Interment will immediately follow the 2 p.m. service at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be the nephews of Stella. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church, 2019 Chapel Drive, Kingsport, TN 37665.
