He was born August 1, 1929, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Earle and Alice Penning-ton. He married Doris Lee Mowery in 1950, and they enjoyed 66 years together. He was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard and the 45th Army Infantry Division, and proudly served his country in Japan and Korea during the Korean War. He was a decorated Sargent and received the Bronze Star medal for heroic service in a combat zone. He was also awarded the Purple Heart medal for injuries sustained during combat. After the birth of their daughter, Teresa, they moved to Ellensburg Washington, where they completed their BA degrees in Education. He also earned his Masters Degree in Education, and Principle Credentials from Central Washington University, and was involved in public education throughout his life. After moving to Pasco in 1969, and the birth of their son, Lance, he continued to remain an active member of the community. He taught at several area schools, and upon retiring from public education, worked for several years at Ron's Food Mart in Kennewick. Bruce was also a very active, lifelong member of the Church of Christ, and he went across the nation on 13 missionary We Care campaigns, sharing the gospel of Christ with others. Bruce was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandchildren Heather and Dean, and his mother-in-law, Minnie. As a dog lover, his companion Beetle was never far behind. He is survived by his wife Doris; children Teresa Houlihan, and Lance Pennington (Tammy Pennington). He is also survived by grandchildren Heather Lathim (Dean Lathim), Scott Houlihan, and Max Pennington, and his great-grandchildren, Dylan and Natasha Lathim.
