DAVE SMITH In honor and celebration of Dave Smith's life, who departed on Monday, April 18 at age 93. Dave was born in Kildare, Texas on August 13, 1922 to Wheeler Smith, Sr. and Lenora (Butcher) Smith. Dave was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S Army. He was stationed in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Dave received 5 Bronze Star Medals, and honorable discharge. He accepted Christ at an early age at St. John Baptist Church, Kildare, Texas. Dave was a devoted husband and father. He was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, Pasco - Pastor, Wayne Jenkins. Dave was a leader, and had a servant's heart. Dave was Deacon Board Chairman for more than 20 years, Choir President, led building projects, maintenance and assisted in many other aspects of church business. Dave began his career as a Construction Laborer/ Foreman (Cement) through Laborer's Local 348 in 1952. He worked on dams in the Pacific Northwest, and for multiple Hanford contractors, i.e., Guy F. Atkinson, Bechtel, J.A. Jones, until his retirement in 1984. In 2002, at the age of 80 Dave came out of retirement and worked for Bechtel on a 4-10 hour day schedule for one year. Dave was a man of integrity, and great provider for his family. He enjoyed praying, reading his bible, teaching, fishing, and playing dominoes. More than anything, Dave loved the Lord, his family and siblings. Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Clemmie, his parents, sons (Rhonda, Johnny, Leonard), and siblings (Isabella Sullivan, Eugene Smith). Dave leaves in God's care three daughters , Shirley Conley, Teresa Smith, Beverly Bradford (Willie) of Pasco, WA; two sons, Kelvin Smith, Seattle, Vernon Smith , Pasco; sisters Gamella Jackson, Johnnie Mae Harper, brother, Wheeler Smith, Jr., Pasco, WA.; (13) Grandchildren, (22) Great Grandchildren, God-daughter Bonita Stewart-Lane, and a host of relatives and friends. Viewing will be held at Columbia Memorial Chapel on Sunday, April 24, from 1:30-3:00 pm. Going home celebration is scheduled for Monday, April 25 at 11:00 am, at New Hope Baptist Church, 630 S Waldemar, Pasco. Interment will follow at Columbia Memorial Gardens, Pasco.
