DONALD (DON) WARNEKE Brookside Funeral Home & Crematory Donald (Don) Warneke went to his heavenly home on the morning of May 21, 2016, surrounded by his family He was born August 21, 1929 in Prosser, WA to Karl Warneke and Opal (Jones) Warneke. At a young age, his dad passed away and Don was raised by his mom, his grandparents and aunt and uncle. His mom married Everett Orsborn and he quickly became the dad Don was left without. After graduating from Prosser High School in 1947, Don started his 37-year career in Banking at Old National Bank in Prosser as a teller and retired in September of 1984 as a manger. In 1953, Don met the love of his life, Shirley Bower, whom he married September 5, 1954. Don's greatest enjoyments were his wife, three daughters, and four grandsons. Don and Shirley went on many adventures throughout their marriage. They always met new friends along the way, some becoming life-long friends. He always enjoyed spending time with his girls and their families, watching them each become successful in their careers. He was very proud of his grandsons, the boys he never had, watching them grow into great young men. Don is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Shirley, his daughters; Kay Warneke, Phyllis Todd (Gary), Connie Smith (Tom) all of Yakima, his grandsons; Aaron Smith (Ali), Adam Smith (Sarah) and Austin Smith, his great granddaughters; Elora, Hailey and Eleanor Smith, great grandson, Carson Smith, step-brother, Ed Orsborn (Robin) and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, step-sisters Lorraine Kohn Nath and Venetta Enyeart Grunert, grandson, John Todd, and several aunts and uncles. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, May 28th at 10:00am at West Hills Memorial Park, 11800 Douglas Rd. and a Celebration of Life at 11:00am at West Valley Missionary Church, 11107 Wide Hollow Road, Yakima.
