FREDERICK HOWARD OBERDORFER Frederick Howard Oberdorfer, 60, of Colbert, WA passed away peacefully on Friday May 6, 2016. Fred was born on December 14, 1955, in Hollis, New York to Joel Marie (Bell) Oberdorfer and Richard Carl Oberdorfer Sr. Fred moved to the Tri-Cities as a child in the winter of 1968, where he graduated from Kennewick High School in 1974. Fred later graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration & Professional Accounting. Fred lived and worked in the Moses Lake and Seattle area for 10 years as a senior accountant and controller. In 1991 he moved to Spokane as the controller and branch manager of Comfort Supply Northwest, Inc. Since then he worked as the controller for Cobalt Truck Equipment, LLC and Perk Restaurant Management, Inc. Most recently Fred was employed as the corporate controller for Rings & Things in Spokane, WA. In 2001 he met his wife, Carol Bjork, while on a ski trip in Oregon, and they were married on September 19th, 2004. Fred and Carol were passionate about the outdoors and they spent much of their free time skiing, hiking, backpacking, climbing, biking and golfing. Fred also loved his home improvement projects and always had something in the works. Fred was an athlete all of his life. He was a wrestler in high school and later loved racquetball, softball, and triathlons. He enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews during all of their sporting events. Fred served several terms as the treasurer and president of the Spokane Mountaineers, and was the founder of the Spokane Mountaineers Foundation. He also volunteered his services with the Dishman Hills Conservancy and First Tee of the Inland Northwest. Survivors include his wife Carol Bjork of Colbert, WA; brother Rick and his wife Leslie of Healdsberg, CA; brother Glenn and his wife Melodie of Longview, WA; sister Karen Morris of Richland WA; nieces and nephews, Corrine (Mark) Reher of Orange CT, Eric Oberdorfer of Washington DC, Ian (Kasidy) of Tucson AZ, Holly Morris (Chris Stidham) of Centralia WA, Jessica Oberdorfer of Longview, WA, Jamie Morris of Richland WA, and Joel Oberdorfer of Longview WA. He was proceed in death by his parents, and his best four-legged friend, Billy. A Celebration of Life service will be held for Fred on Saturday, May 14th at 2:00 pm at the Commellini Estate, 14715 N. Dartford Dr., Spokane, WA 99208.
