I was just a 11 or 12 year old kid when we moved to a farm in the Ten Davis (Parma Idaho "suburb") area just a couple of miles from the Easterday farm. They farmed some land just across the road from our house. Gale was a few years older than me, but still in high school. My Dad took a special liking to Gale and his older brother as they were the ones working the fields. Gale had a dynamic outgoing personality that just made you smile when you talked about him. He was one of those characters you never forget.

First met Gale back in the late 90's when we first started spaying for Easterday farms with our Helicopter and he came out in a pickup to check us out. He asked me what I did and I said I was the Gopher, the Grunt of the outfit. I, not knowing who he was said," what do you do here "? He replied "The same thing you do." So we talked a bit about the job we were doing and then he thanked me and left. When my boss came back and landed he asked me "What did Mr. Easterday say to you"? It was then I learned who I was speaking to. Great down to earth guy who treated me as an equal. Sure enjoyed that 10 minute talk with that giant of a man. 20 years we sprayed for them. Rest in Peace "Gale"! You will be missed.

I first met Gale when I began working with Crane. I’ll never forget I was so nervous to meet him. First time meeting one of Cranes closest friends/business associates. Gale walked in with his warm smile and dirty boots and I instantly was drawn to talk to him. And if you talked to him, you knew his love for his family and this area was above anything I have ever seen before. Gale was such a kind human and so smart. Karen and family, my thoughts and prayers go out too you all.

My first memories of Gale was when he was running the beet digger during harvest on our family farm. He was a good operator who kept his equipment running to get the crops out on time. In early years the Easterday farms did custom harvesting to subsidize their own operations so it was important to stay on schedule. I will always think of Gales' grin. After I left the farm, my parents would comment on seeing Gale; always with at least one of his kids with him. His closeness to his family really created a legacy. We will miss him. On behalf of my father, Richard, I extend condolences from the Rehfeld famiy.

I enjoyed talking to you at the WSU tailgate parties about raising sugar beets and the harvesting with the John Deere 4020 powershift tractors. You were so rich with knowledge about agriculture. I enjoyed your drive.
