GERTRUDE BENNETT Dec 3, 1922 - Apr 4, 2016 Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Gertrude Bennett of Milton-Freewater passed away on April 4, 2016 at Regency at the Park in College Place at the age of 93 years. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15th at 2:00 P.M. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Free-water. Concluding services and interment will be in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a Veterans Organization of your choice in care of the funeral home. Gertrude was born December 3, 1922 in Pinegrove, Oregon the daughter of Charles N. and Gertrude O. Brown. As a baby the family moved to Pasco, Washington. Later, the family moved to Umapine, Oregon where she attended school before moving to Milton-Freewater where Gertrude attended 2 years of school before returning back to Umapine where she graduated from high school. After high school Gertrude worked for a time, but mostly was a homemaker. She married Leonard N. Bennett on February 23, 1970. The couple lived in Union, Oregon where they started the VFW post. They later lived in Hermiston, Weston and Milton-Freewater. She was active in veterans organizations all of her life. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary #4567, DAV Auxiliary Unit 7, Integrity Rebeka Lodge #175, American Legion #24 Auxiliary and Past Dept. President of the Ladies of the Grand Republic. She enjoyed sewing and volunteering at the V.A. Hospital. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann Joseph, son Gordon "Dean" Barnett, daughter Linda Sue Wallace, numerous step children, her brother Robert Andrew Brown; sister Hannah Elizabeth Owens, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her parents, husband Leonard Bennett, sons Donald Wallace and Norman Andrew Wallace all preceded her in death. To leave a condolence online visit: www.munsellerhodes.com
