HELEN F. JOHNSON Hillcrest Memorial Center Helen Frieda (Wirth) Johnson, age 100, went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on May 18th, 2016. Helen was born to Ben and Martha Wirth at the family homestead north of Connell, May 13th, 1916. She graduated valedictorian from Connell High School in 1934, and received her teaching degree in music and home-economics from Cheney Normal School (now EWU) in 1938. The next 12 years she taught in Whitstran, Grandview, Ritzville, and Yakima. Helen loved her students. In 1951 she returned to Connell to teach and care for her parents. She met fellow teacher, James T. Johnson, and they were married in 1953. Their marriage was made in Heaven. Helen returned to teach special education after their two children were in high school. Helen and Jim retired in 1979 and enjoyed their art work for more than 30 years. Each Tuesday Helen took china painting at the Pasco Senior Center and Jim took oil painting at the Kennewick Senior Center. They enjoyed their home in Connell, their family, friends and former students; and especially their church family of 65+ years. Helen is survived by her husband Jim of 62 years, daughter Harriet Johnson, son Ken Johnson (Debbie), grandchildren Ben (Patricia), Wes, Amanda and her large extended family. We give special thanks to the staff of the Tri-Cities Retirement Inn, Hospice and the Life Care Center of Richland for their wonderful loving care. A celebration of Helen's life will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Connell United Methodist Church, 104 S. Burke Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Connell United Methodist Church, PO Box 99, Connell, WA 99326 or your local Hospice. Hillcrest Memorial Center of Kennewick, WA is handling the arrangements. We invite you to sign the online guest book at www.HillcrestMemorialCenter.com.
