IRENE C. HIGUERA Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home Irene Carol Higuera was born in 1925 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Guy and Ruth Ferguson. She marveled at her four brothers and sisters, Stan, Sid, Harriet and Ruthie and told many stories of their younger years getting into trouble chasing rattlesnakes in the countryside. Later, Irene would make her way to Oregon where she found a job as a Telephone Operator. It was there that she met some close friends and one night, they all went to a Country-Western dance together. Irene often recalled the story of seeing a nice looking gentleman there and she worked up the courage to ask him to dance. When he said he couldn't dance, she pulled him out to the dance floor and said "I'll teach you". And that is where her love story began. Her soulmate, Charles Joseph Higuera, would later become her best friend, adoring husband and the father of her two daughters, Susan and Karen, and only son, Jeff. Charles and Irene built a beautiful life together with their children in the Tri-Cities. Irene was devoted to her family and was heartbroken when Charles passed in 1988. However, she promised to continue caring for their precious gift, Karen, who had Down Syndrome, and gave her a beautiful, fulfilling life. Irene and Karen were partners and the best of friends until Karen's passing in 2011. Irene enjoyed the last years of her life spending cherished time with her son and daughter and watching their families grow into her legacy. She often spoke of how blessed she was as her blue eyes sparkled with pride and pure joy. Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her daughter, Karen, whom she is now reunited with in heaven. She is survived by her eldest daughter, Susan Kelley and son, Jeff Higuera and wife Julie. She was also loved and survived by grandchildren Jenny Diaz (husband Pedro), Julie Lindstrom (husband Casey), Andy Stitt (wife Melynda), Charrelle Borey (husband John), Austin Higuera (wife Madie), Caleb Stromstad (wife Jennifer), Josiah Stromstad (fianc‚ Jocelyn), Jordan Stromstad (wife Tana) and Micah Broeker (husband Sam) and 15 great-grandchildren.
