JOAN D. SCHWARTZ Einan's at Sunset Joan D. Schwartz passed away at home on June 2, 2016 at the age of 82. She was born on October 19, 1933 in New York City, and lived there until 1958, when she moved to Maryland. She lived there until moving to Kenne-wick, Washington in 2013. Joan enrolled in Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1951. Following that, she enlisted in the Navy in 1956 for the purpose of determining if women could complete basic training. Following her successful completion of basic training, she was honorably discharged. Joan was very proud of her short time in the Navy. In 1957, she moved with her husband, Reuben, and her one year old son, Howard, to Maryland. Her second son, Ronald, was born in 1959. The family was completed when Adeena was born in 1970. Joan was very active in her synagogue, and raised her family with love and affection. She didn't like cooking in the kitchen. She felt that the only use for the kitchen was for baking desserts, especially chocolate chip cookies. Joan worked in the newspaper advertising business, then opened up and ran her own printing business. This was the love of her life. She was able to combine her business skills with her social skills and her love of being able to kibitz. She was an accomplished pianist and loved to play at any social gathering. She could hear a song for the first time on the radio and instantly be able to play it on the piano. Family members loved her piano playing much more than her singing. She moved to Kennewick to be with her son, Ronald, for the last few years of her life. She was preceded in death by her son, Howard, and is survived by her children, Ronald (Kennewick, Washington) and Adeena (Hagerstown, Maryland). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Per her request, a memorial service will not be held. Express your thoughts and memories on our online Guestbook at
