LUCILLE LENORE HAGLUND ROOT Prosser Funeral Home Lucille was born January 31, 1923 in Seattle, Washington. She passed to a better place after suffering a second stroke on Monday, May 2, 2016 in Prosser, Washington. She was the youngest child of Carl Gustaf Kjelberg Haglund and Emma (Johnson) Haglund. She grew up in Seattle and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1941. (You can go anywhere in the world and run into someone that graduated from Roosevelt) Lucille met Warren Root on a blind date. When he returned from the war in 1946 they were married in Seattle. They had five children and lived in Seattle, Pasco, Walla Walla, and Prosser. Lucille and Warren enjoyed spending time with family, their many great friends, golfing, boating, traveling, and living on Easy Street. She loved to entertain, ski, swim, garden, read and help others. Lucille attended Washington State University and the University of Washington. She was a proud member of Chi Omega, P.E.O., Anti Rust, Friends of the Library, St. Matthews Episcopal Church, and Prosser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Lucille is survived by her five children, Chris Root, Brenda Root, Neal Root, Carl (Cheryll) Root, Elizabeth (Gaylan) Moore and her grandchildren, Jason Root, Derek (Rachel, Brody and Bria), Kyle, Tanner and Tessa Moore. She was preceded in death by Warren, her husband of 56 years, her parents, her brother, Robert, her sister, Bernice and numerous friends. Lucille lived a long and wonderful life and was the best wife, mom and grandma. If you knew mom, you know she would say: read, learn geography, go outside and play, be kind and smile. The friends made by our family through the years have been a big support for her and the whole Root family. We cherish them and thank them. And we would also like to say thank you to Prosser Memorial Hospital, Kadlec Hospital, Prosser Physical Therapy, Sheffield Manor and her many friends that have visited, sent notes, and have helped her these last nine months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Prosser Washington or Friends of the Prosser Library. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 6, 2016 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Prosser Washington. You may leave an online message of condolence for the family at www.prosser funeralhome.com
