PEGGY JOAN SCHAFFER Lakeview Funeral Home Peggy Joan Schaffer, 82, found her way into the arms of her God and Savior on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Luther Park Assisted Living in Sandpoint, ID. There will be a celebration of Peg's life at Luther Park at 6:30 pm on Friday, November 4, 2016 with Pastor Jim Osman of Kootenai Community Church officiating. Viewing will be held Friday from 4-6 pm at the Lakeview Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the I.O.O.F Evergreen Cemetery in Rosalia, WA. Peg was born in Colville, WA on May 19, 1934 to Ray and Kathrine Paysse. The Paysse family moved to Ephrata in the early 1940s where they built a home and raised Peggy and her older brother Bob. Peggy finished high school in 1953 and shortly after, married Bud Schaffer, a young Air Force recruit who happened to crash a high school dance where they met and soon fell in love. Peggy was an Air Force wife while Bud went through cadet training and became a jet fighter pilot. They toured the country together on several Air Force adventures. Following their AF career, Peg and Bud landed in Pullman where she helped put Bud through college and gave birth to her two sons, Brad and Jeff. Following graduation the young family moved to Richland, where Peggy and Bud spent time raising the boys, having careers at Hanford, and growing closer to God and friends at the First Baptist Church of Richland. Upon retirement, Peg and Bud moved to their "cabin" on Lake Pend Oreille in North Idaho. They were active members of the Kootenai Community Church and made many folks feel welcome as they visited the lake, and enjoyed her hospitality. Peg struggled through several years of memory loss and spent her last four years living at Luther Park. Peg worked hard to keep smiling, right up to the end. The staff at Luther Park worked tirelessly to give Peggy daily strength and dignity. Peggy won the hearts of many around her, but none more than her late husband Bud and her two adoring sons. She is survived by Brad (Mary) Schaffer of Richland, WA and Jeff (Marcie) Schaffer of Tulsa, OK. She was also a loving grandmother to Katie, Jonathan, and Lindsey. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bud Schaffer, and brother Bob Paysse. Memorial donations may be made to the Luther Park Staff Fund, 510 S. Olive Ave, Sandpoint, ID 83864; or the Kootenai Community Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 593, Kootenai, ID 83840. Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint is handling the arrangements.
