SALLY JEAN WETZEL COLE Sally Wetzel Cole passed away at her home in Bellingham on March 14, 2017 at the age of 92, three weeks before her 93rd birthday. Sally was born in Pasco, WA on April 7, 1924 to Catherine and Raymond Wetzel. She spent her childhood with her older brother, Raymond, in Pasco, WA. They moved to Spokane in 1939 where she remained for 64 years. Her brother Raymond was a U.S. Marine Fighter Pilot who was killed in action in the closing days of WWII. Sally and Raymond were very close and she never got over the loss. Sally graduated from North Central High School in 1942 and Eastern Washington University in 1946 with a degree in Education. She spent 28 years as a public school teacher in the Spokane School District. Her greatest joy in life was her family and traveling. She was an active sorority member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 65 years and a bridge club enthusiast. She was a loyal Democrat and was chosen to be a state representative at the national Democratic convention in 1992. She served on the board of trustees at Eastern Washington University and she loved watching Gonzaga basketball. Go Zags! Sally is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Janet Cole, son, John Cole, daughter-in-law, Kathy Cole, four granddaughters, Katherine Hilde, Beth Christian, Kimberly Trahan, and Rachel Polly, seven great-grandchildren, best friend and traveling partner Margaret Walsh, and her college roommate, Ruth Dorn. A grave side service will be held later this summer in Spokane, WA.
