THOMAS L. WHITEHEAD Thomas L Whitehead , 81, of Benton City, passed away June 24, 2017 at Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick. He was born October 5, 1935 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Thomas and Lucille Whitehead. Migrating to the Yakima Valley at a young age, he grew up and attended school in Moxee, WA. Tom entered the US Air Force in 1955, serving as an air police. Following discharge, he lived and worked in the Yakima Valley. He married Kathey in 1958 and daughter Linda was born in 1959. He was employed for Kwik Lok Corporation for many years, installing bakery machinery. Tom relocated to Benton City in 1983, following marriage to his sweetheart of almost 34 years, Barbara. There they were involved in the business of breeding, training and racing horses for 15 years. Tom then followed car racing, loving to attend NASCAR races, traveling to many locations, and playing a little blackjack at casinos along the way. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Benton City, Daughter Linda Ogletree, Selah, grandsons Thomas Wages , wife Tamis and children Tre and Graedon, Portland Oregon, and Richard Wages, wife Megan and son Kamden, Yakima, and sisters and brother-in-laws, Margaret and Mack Scott, Boise, Idaho, Donald and Sharon Derifield Kennewick, brother-in-law and wife, Allen and Linda Hash, Portland, Oregon, and numerous nieces and nephews who retain a special place in his heart. A memorial potluck will be held on July 8, 2017 at the American Legion Hall, 909 Dale Avenue, Benton City, WA, beginning at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice House, in care of Chaplaincy Health Care , 1480 Fowler Street, Richland, WA 99352.
