First my sincere condolences to Tom's wife, Barbara and family. I had the distinct honour of being a teaching colleague of Janis , his daughter, in the late 60's/early 70's at an elementary school in the Sooke School District, Greater Victoria, B.C. Janis was a superb teacher who subsequently went on to a district administration position. Knowing her made ME a better teacher. I never knew her wonderful dad but knowing that he is at peace and pain free is a comfort for all who knew him. To the family, cherish the wonderful memories of a life well lived. Robert Thompson.

My condolences to Barb and family. Tom played an important role in the work that led up to the establishment of what became the Experimental Lakes Area in northwestern Ontario. One of the primary field sites for freshwater environmental studies in the world. I also remember a great Christmas party that Tom and Barb hosted for Freshwater Institute friends in the early 70s before they left Winnipeg for the west coast.
