John Walker Obituary
John Walker, 90, of Slater passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2021.
John was born on August 15, 1930 to Clarence and Ella (Halverson) Walker in Ankeny, Iowa. He grew up in Kelley and graduated from Slater High School in 1948. John married Janice Harmon on September 14, 1952 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. John worked at Firestone and served with the Army National Guard. He was an avid Iowa State fan and greatly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
John is survived by his wife, Janice; three daughters, LuAnn (Brock Herron) Gibson of Slater, Lynn (Kelley Aarhus) Sheehan of Slater and Lee Miller (Dave) of Stanhope, IA; six grandchildren, Joseph (Lora) Gibson, Dusty Sheehan, Amy (Matt) Holmes, Tabitha (Tyler) Eatock, Jennifer (Anders) Dovre, and Michael Sheehan; ten great grandchildren, Afton and Marshall Holmes, Avery and Addison Gibson, Nelle and Nora Dovre, Josie, Brynlee, Cael and Journey Eatock; and his sisters, Norma Jean Lem of Ames and Ruth Roberts of Urbandale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Soderstrum; brothers-in-law, Loewell Soderstrum, Paul Lem and Jack Roberts; and son-in-law, Rich Gibson.
Private family services will be Monday at Bethlehem Cemetery in Slater.
Soderstrum Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
