4th grade Red Mill. Will never forget. RIP

March 8, 2019

I remember Mrs. Benson so well! She was my 4th grade teacher in the late 1960's. Our class trip to the Clark Institute was my first exposure to a true museum of art and I was hooked from that day on! She was a traditionalist and did not allow the young ladies in her class to wear pants - although she did organize one bell-bottom day for us, parade and all! So sorry to hear of her passing, but very pleased that she had such a long, lovely life. Thank you Mrs. Benson!

Mrs. Benson was a class act! Best teacher ever! Very well rounded. She was my fourth grade teacher at Red Mill. I remember all of the wonderful field trips she worked so hard to bring us on. I vividly remember them to this day. Not only the Clark Institute but she also arranged a tour of the "new" legislative office building and lunch with Senator Hudson. She was a perfect blend of strict and caring. What a wonderful long life she had.

What a wonderful long life your loved one had, Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. Special mightiness indeed. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

Mrs. Benson was my fourth grade teacher at Red Mill. I will never forget her way of making each one of us feel like we had all the potential in the world and she believed in us more then we probably believed in ourselves.
I was lucky enough to be introduced to the Clark Art Institute because of her field trips (many of us got to go along when we were in second grade and then again in fourth, due to a combined trip between both Mrs. Benson and Mrs. Sroka).
I continue to go there every fall and every spring - Degas & Monet became my favorite artists at the very young age of 8. I think of her every single time I walk into the main lobby and her instructions to respect the art and those who are also there to appreciate it.
She will forever be remembered in all those that she taught and touched their lives.
I am very sorry for your loss, thank you for sharing your mother with all of her Red Mill kids. We are truly blessed to have had her.

Mrs Benson was my fourth grade teacher. Now a teacher myself, I am in even more awe of the role model and person she was. She made us, her students, want to be better because of her example. I still have the book she sent home to me with a person note when I had pneumonia. What a thoughtful, dynamic and kind woman. I also remember her shoes! Always dressed to perfection, her shoes were amazing- as young girls she was a role model of a classy, strong, intelligent woman. We adored her. She treated us like our potential was endless and I know I never had another teacher who made such a positive impression on me.

Just heard of Mrs. Benson's passing. She was a beautiful woman who always had a smile on her face. Plus, she loved music and would show up at most of my shows. Made me feel good. Rest in Peace, Maddie.
