Edward F. Manny IIITROY - Edward F. Manny III, 67, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully in his sleep at his Troy home Friday, June 8, 2018.Ed was born on July 8, 1950, in Troy, the first son of the late Edward F. Manny Sr. and Jane (Dwyer) Manny. Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Martha "Marty" (Grady) Manny, his loving children Eric (Meghan) Manny, Edward T. "Eddie" (Allison) Manny, and Melissa (Troy) Bombard. Ed is the proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, Eric Manny Jr., Brian Manny, Kyle Manny, Emily Manny, Jacob Manny, Zachary Bombard and Alexander Bombard; his four siblings, Bob Manny, Tom (Lori) Manny, Diane (Frank) Mastan, John (Lori Blackburn) Manny; his sister-in-law Sue Grady, and several nieces and nephews. Ed is pre-deceased by his sister-in-law Mary Lou Riegert and his brother-in-law W. Don Grady. He is also survived by many beloved friends and acquaintances. Ed, a graduate of St. Augustine's School and Catholic Central High School, class of 1969, was a lifelong resident of Troy.Ed served as a dedicated Troy Firefighter from September 1978 to September 2006. Retired after 28 years of service, he was a member of the Troy Retired Firefighters Association. During his tenure he organized the annual Troy Fire Prevention Poster Contest for the Troy Public Schools, he was elected to the Troy UFA Executive Board, was instrumental in starting the Troy Fire Ambulance Service and helped promote the EMS program for the city. He was recognized for his service in 1994 with the Captain Sam Carello Award, in 2002 with the Carl A. Smith Award and was the recipient of Unit Citations for Rescue and Bravery.Ed served as President of the Troy Flag Day Parade Committee, having served as a member of the committee for 37 years. Ed was also a faithful member of the Friends of 112th Street as well as Honorary Director of the Friends of St. Patrick.Ed has served as Democratic Deputy Minority Leader for the Rensselaer County Legislature since 2010, representing residents of Troy's District One. Ed served on the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee, Rules and Legislative Operations Committee and sat in on all meetings of the Budget and Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Rensselaer County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board, the RC Emergency Radio Communications Committee and the RC Fire Advisory Board. He also served as chairman of the Soil and Water Conservation Board and was a past member of the Environmental Committee.Ed loved spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He and Marty often enjoyed dining out at their favorite restaurants, Verdile's in Lansingburgh and The Recovery Room in Troy. Ed enjoyed the laughter and company of fellow patrons and wait staff.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 14 at St. Augustine's Church, Troy. Calling hours will be held at Frank P.
