Carolyn Rose (Sheets) Brockway 82, of Suttons Bay died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at her home with her loving family at her side during her final days. Carolyn was born November 23, 1926 in Marshalltown, IA, the daughter of Ralph and Carrie (Wopat) Sheets. Carolyn enjoyed a long career as an educator. She taught science at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, IA and at the University of Arizona. She co-authored science textbooks for the high school students. Carolyn earned her PhD in Science Education at the age of 65. She enjoyed traveling abroad and playing duplicate bridge, of which she was a life master. Carolyn is survived by a daughter, Cathy (Paul) Sehnert; four grandsons, David Sehnert, Scott Sehnert, John Thomas Jr. and Christopher Thomas, a great-grandson, Benjamin Sehnert. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Brockway, in 2004; a son, David Jr. and daughter, Barbara Thomas. No local services will be held. Memorials may be directed to the UMC Cancer Center Foundation, 1501 Campbell Ave, Tucson, AZ, 85725; the Fishtown Preservation Society, PO Box 721, Leland, MI, 49654 and/or Munson Hospice Foundation, 210 Beaumont Place, Traverse City, MI, 49684.
