When I became a single mom, one of the Pantano leaders invited me to Divorce Care. There I met Dale and Peggy among other wonderful people. They helped me heal, gain strength. Dale was a wonderful man of God. I feel privileged to have met such an exemplary man! I couldn't make it to visit him or the services. My prayers are with his children and loved ones.

I met Dale while stationed at Hahn Air Base, Germany. He was stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base down the road. A mutual friend of ours Richard Delezene had invited him to hang out one weekend. I liked Dale right away. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and was pretty good playing hacki sack. After Hahn I got stationed at Davis Monthan in Tucson. Where I ran into Dale again. Dale was a good friend. I was happy when I introduced him to Julie, who would soon become his wife. Dale was a kind soul who never said bad things about people. He was always positive in his attitude. He was liked by all who knew him. I will miss him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dale in 2013 during an interview for an open Veterans' Benefits Counselor position within the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services, Veterans' Services Division located in Tucson. Initially I was concerned that I would not find the best candidate for the job as this position demands a lot from a counselor and their heart really needs to be in the right place for success. I spoke to my wife Vicky before the interview and she reminded me as she often has to pray before meeting with applicants. I later found out that Dale was doing the same thing in the parking lot prior to coming in. When we pray, we may not always get an answer we want but in this case "HOME RUN! Thank you Jesus! He not only excelled assisting hundreds of veterans and their family members but he became a close friend to all of us in the department and a brother in Christ to those in our office that had profound conversation over scripture. He inspired me to be better through hard work, humility, and the love of Jesus in my walk. I will miss our conversations my brother but will rejoice in knowing you are with our Lord and Savior.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. As time passes may you find peace in the memories you share, and comfort from the hope that God is close to the broken-hearted.

Scott and I have lived next door to Dale and his family since he's lived in Tucson. Other than the annual box of Girl Scout cookies he delivered to out door each year for helping with a Mitchell project, we really didn't know much about Dale. It was when Ed approached me to help with Dale's caretaking that I really got to know him. We had many heart to heart conversations during that time and watched many reruns of The Andy Griffith Show in between feeds and medications. I can honestly share that Dale was one of the kindest persons I knew. He lived his life for his children to the point that his personal life was put on hold for the sake of his 2 kids. He told me about all of the sentimental things he kept around his house and I heard many stories of Dale as a single parent. (Nala eating 2 pizzas as they played outside) One of the last days I cared for Dale he requested I display the plastic plates that Ashlyn and Mitchell made as children so he could see them as he sat in his wheelchair watching TV. On a lighter note, the last time I recall laughing with Dale was when he told me about calling in to a radio talk show about cats peeing in the house and while he was on the radio, his CAT WAS PEEING IN HIS HOUSE. It was so ironic. We spoke of how fortunate he was to have Ed and Carolyn in his life and how beautiful his sisters and mother were and even Lance, his brother. I saw the posters daily of how supportive his family was, loved it! Each and every thing I did for Dale resulted in a "Thank You." When I asked Dale if he ever asked "Why me" his response was "Who else?". We feel very fortunate to have gotten to help Dale out when we could. Rest in peace, Dale, if anybody deserves it, you do, our friend.
