ELLIG, Frank William, Kennebunk, The Honorable Frank William Ellig, 98, of Penny Lane, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at Atria in Kennebunk, following a period of declining health. He was born March 26, 1910, in Hoboken, N.J., a son of Frank and Elizabeth (Kohl) Ellig. He grew up in Hoboken and Teaneck, N.J., attending local schools. Frank completed his undergraduate degree at New York University. He then attended law school at NYU, where he earned his J.D. In 1942 he answered his country's call and entered the U.S. Army where he served in campaigns in the European Theater, North Africa, Rome, Arno and Rhineland. Following his discharge, he returned to New Jersey where he was employed as an accountant. In 1961, he moved his family to Tucson, Ariz., where he continued his legal career. He became a municipal judge in and for the City of Tucson, and also adjudicated workers' compensation cases for the State of Arizona. He retired from the bench in 1980 and moved to Maine and married Edythe Hedegaard Runge in 1985. Together, they summered in Maine and wintered in Tucson until 2006 when illness forced a permanent settling in Maine. Frank was a well known cycling enthusiast. He cycled both locally and abroad, staying in elder hostels. He rode until reaching the age of 95. Frank and Edythe enjoyed traveling the world together. Frank was predeceased by his first wife in 1984. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Edythe Ellig, of Kennebunkport; two sons, Robert Ellig, of Santa Fe, N.M., and William Ellig, of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Frances Moerke and her husband Robert, of Riverside, Calif., and Deborah Bryson and her husband John, of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services: There are no calling hours. A memorial service was held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kennebunk. Interment will be in Tucson at a later date.
