Mamie Lee Holmes-Anderson went home to be with our Lord on March 8, 2008. Mamie was born on November 9, 1945 in Tyler, TX to the union of Lula Mae Anderson - Holmes and Oscar James Holmes. She attended schools in Tucson; graduated from Tucson High School and Kress Nursing School. She also attended Pima College and the University of Arizona. Mamie was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church at an early age. She was an active life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the DAV Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion. She was very active in Prince Hall Masonic Family; Desert Star Chapter 8, order of Eastern Stars (Past Matron 12 years), as well as the Prince Hall Grand Chapter (Past Grand Secretary), Missouri Nobles Assembly 55, Order of Golden Circle (Past Loyal Lady Ruler) and Scimitar Court 120 of the Daughters of Isis. Mamie received numerous awards for her community service. Mamie is survived by her son, Michael T. (Judith) Anderson and daughter, Vertrice M. Anderson (Ignacio M. Cruz); brothers, Alvin Thompson and Lamont Holmes sisters, Estella Nobles and Betty Lou Holmes and Blondell Brown of Tucson and Margie Myers of CA; grandsons, Adam, Bennie, Jason, Steven, Christopher and Taylor; great grandchildren, Christopher, Damian and Arianna and a host of relatives and dear friends. Mamie has asked that donations be made to the Arizona Kidney Foundation. Visitation will be held at South Lawn Mortuary, 5401 S. Park Ave., on Friday, March 14, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Memorial Service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church, 850 N. 11th Ave. on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.
