Myrtle Giachetti Obituary

Myrtle Giachetti passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on May 5, 2009. Myrtle Gladys Valleyfield was born in Chicago, IL on March 23, 1912. She met Mario Giachetti and was married in 1933. Mario and his brother, Salvatore, started the very successful Linco Bleach Co in Chicago. They raised three children in their loving homes in Chicago and Tucson. They made Tucson their permanent residence in 1962. Myrtle's only daughter, Sandy, passed away in 1996. Her two sons graduated from the University of Arizona. Roger is a local homebuilder. Richard is a local architect. Myrtle was fond of saying that she and Mario "started it all", meaning the huge Giachetti clan, many of whom still live in Tucson. They were fortunate enough to travel to Europe as well as Mexico, Cuba and much of the United States. Myrtle was a loving and caring person, always thinking of others. She was witty, fun and the life of every party. Myrtle enjoyed the arts. She was an accomplished pianist and composer. She also wrote poetry. A wonderful meal always came out of her kitchen. Myrtle is survived by her two sons, Roger (Jennifer) and Richard (Beth); her many grandchildren, Tony, Michael, Paul, Gina and Julie Giachetti. Daniel Prosser (Cheryl), Jeannie Gadea (Manuel), Tommy Prosser (Maria), Robert Prosser, Kathy Prosser and eleven great-grandchildren. Ma / Grandma will be sorely missed by all. Thank you to her devoted caregivers "Lila" and Francine. Thanks also to Casa de la Luz Hospice and Sunrise Assisted Living for their compassionate care. There will be a private family Service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Myrtle's name to your favorite charity.

I was so sorry to hear of Aunt Myrtle's passing. Her death marks the end of an era. We will not see her like again. She was beautiful, talented, witty and charming. It was such a pleasure to speak to her by phone from time to time. I was in awe of her sharp mind and memory. She could recall so many people and events from our Chicago days. Although she lived many years she never grew old. I will miss her but am so grateful to have had her in my life. My condolences to her family.

I am sorry to hear of Myrtle Giachetti's death. I worked for Mario in Chicago in the forties and married Steve Prassa son of Albino Prassa, one of Mario's partners at Linco. I met Myrtle many times in Chicago and Visited her in Tucson when she was vacationing there in the forties. She was a wonderful person and I am happy to hear she lived a long and happy life.
