MCWHIRTER, Ursula Brigitte After 90 wonderful years, our beloved mother and grandmother passed away on May 2, 2018 in Tucson. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, preceded in death by husband, Dr. Wallace McWhirter. Survived by her four children, Karen, Brian, Stephen and Andy; grandchildren, SheaAnn, Thomas, Marina, Suzette and Andria. Her family always meant more to her than anything else in the world. Her otherwise happy childhood was interrupted by the devastation of life in WWII Germany. Following the war, she trained as a medical technician and to accommodate her deep-rooted wanderlust, her father made arrangements for her to work in the U.S. as an X-ray technician in Detroit. There she met Wallace, a radiologist, who became the love of her life. His unexpected and early death in 1979 was the second tragic event of her life. As before, she used that tragedy to change her life by studying and becoming a travel agent, allowing her the opportunity to explore more of the world. She shared the wanderlust attitude with her kids and her grandkids. At her passing, she had a cruise planned for August; her greatest desire being to experience a final adventure with all her family. Along with her desire to see the world, she will be most remembered for her strong German will, her love of family, friends, parties, hiking, camping, swimming, skiing, classical music, opera, and gardening. Memorial Service to be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, 8625 E. Tanque Verde. Interment at East Lawn Palms Cemetery to follow at 1:30 p.m. In honor of her memory, donations may be made to the Friends of Sabino Canyon or the Fox Tucson Theatre. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.
