JUST, Kurt Wolfgang Helmut died peacefully in his asleep at home on Father's Day, June 19, 2016. He was born May 19, 1927, in Oels bei Breslau, Germany, the only son of Johann and Maria Just. After World War II, he attended several universities in Germany and completed a Doctorate in Natural Sciences at the Free University of (West) Berlin. There he met and married Sigrid Walther and they had three sons. In September 1961, the Just family immigrated to the USA, settling in Tucson, AZ, where Kurt was a Professor of Physics at the UofA for over 40 years. A life-long Catholic, Kurt liked to attend Mass, read religious books, and discuss questions of science and religion. He was an avid hiker, swimmer, and cyclist. The week before his death, he was still riding his tricycle to go shopping and visit his wife in an Assisted Living home. He enjoyed traveling, esp. to scientific conferences and to reunions of childhood friends from Breslau. His final trip to Germany was at age 88! Kurt is survived by Sigrid, his wife of 62½ years, and three adult sons, Stefan (and wife Rebecca), of Running Springs, CA; Klemens, of Berlin, Germany; and Felix, of Anaheim, CA. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, at St. Thomas More Newman Center, 1615 E 2nd St, in Tucson. Notes of condolence may be sent to: Rev. Felix Just SJ, 401 W Leonora St, Anaheim, CA 92805.
