Mary Cannon Obituary

Mary Foster Cannon 8-13-1921 - 1-16-2007 Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Mary Foster Cannon, 85, died peacefully in her home on January 16, 2007 after a short battle with lung cancer. She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Matthew who was killed in an auto accident in 1987 at the age of 23. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Willard and her sons, Stephen (59) of Tucson, David (56) of Nashville and Mark (51) of Tucson. Mary was a brilliant and beautiful daughter of the South. Born and raised in Alabama, she was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Alabama and later earned her Master's in Library Science from Louisiana State University. After the family moved to Tucson from Alaska, Mary worked in the Tucson Library system and culminated her career as Director of the Nanini Branch. Those lucky enough to have known her will remember her wonderful sense of humor, her life-long dedication to the Democratic Party, and her passion for reading. She was the light of our lives and her sudden death has been a terrible shock to her family. Our profound sense of loss is comforted by the knowledge that she lived a long and wonderful life, surrounded by those who loved her so much. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Avenue from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2007. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

So very sad to hear of your loss. I began my career at Nanini Library in 1980 and worked with Matthew Cannon, who was a page at the time. They were both wonderful to work with. I am still at the library and will remember both Mary and Matt with fond memories.

My Condolences to the Cannon Family.
Mary was my biggest inspiration for knowledge, spirit, and greatest humor. I shall always have fond memories of her in our Library Days at Main and Himmel.
Thank You Mary.
