Marlin Moore Obituary

TUSCALOOSA – Marlin Duncan Moore, Jr., of Tuscaloosa, died peacefully May 25, 2016, at DCH Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 79. A private family graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. A service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, with The Rev. David Meginniss and The Rev. Dr. Catherine Collier officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Pride Tompkins Moore and Marlin Duncan Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Laine Mosley Moore; sister, Ann Moore Manderson (Wilbur) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; brother, Thomas Wilson Moore (Stella) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; daughters, Diana Moore Ogletree (Billy) of Gadsden, Ala., Brandi Bates Brasher of Covington, La., and Britney Bates Karasick (Steve) of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Marlin Duncan Moore, Ill (Sharon) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Leslie Marrow Jones, Remick Marlin Cheek, Ford John Sanford Brasher, Mills McLean Moore, Blakely Bates Brasher, Charlotte Elizabeth Carlisle, Brent William Karasick and Joshua Denton Karasick; and his many nieces and nephews.
Marlin was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School, where he was a standout football and track athlete for the Black Bears. He attended college at the University of Alabama, where he studied business and lettered for three years on the Crimson Tide track team. Upon finishing with a degree from the School of Commerce, he joined the firm of Pritchett-Moore, Inc., working under its founders, Marlin Moore, Sr. and Harry H. Pritchett.
His career spanned more than five decades, as he eventually became President and then Chairman of Pritchett-Moore. He helped to shape the face of our community, as he developed forty-three subdivisions, most of them in Tuscaloosa. His professional involvement included two terms as President of the Tuscaloosa Association of Realtors, President of the Alabama Association of Realtors and an eleven- year stint as a Board Member of the National Association of Realtors. He was a recipient of the Alabama Realtor of the Year Award and a member of the Home Builders Association of Tuscaloosa Hall of Fame.
Banking was a keen interest of his. He was a founder of Security Bank, where he served as its Chairman prior to the sale to Capstone Bank. He served as a Board Member of First National Bank, Board Member of AmSouth Bank and two terms on the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
Marlin loved West Alabama and believed in paying one's civic rent. Among many affiliations and philanthropic endeavors were the United Way of West Alabama, West Alabama Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross, Exchange Club, the Boy Scout Council, the West Alabama Community Foundation, The University of Alabama and The Crimson Tide Track Program. In 2008, he was inducted into the Pillars of West Alabama.
Pallbearers will be Loyd "Bubba" Baker, James Buford Boone, Jr., Al Cabaniss, Dr. Ernest Everett Hale, Jr., William Elliott Laudeman, III, Dr. Earl Roger Sayers, Robert Wiley Shepard, Dr. James Edgar Shotts and Jackson Riggs Stephenson.
The family would like to thank the caring professionals DCH Regional Medical Center.
